Andrew Roth, president of the State Freedom Caucus Network, claims that every state has a liberal ‘swamp’ where Democrats and ‘liberal Republicans’ work together to expand government.
Roth’s organization is dedicated to exposing deceitful lawmakers who he says have strayed from conservative principles. His group aims to educate voters on the influence of these politicians, who he claims vote like liberal Democrats despite claiming to support conservative values such as gun rights, family values, and limited government.
The State Freedom Caucus currently operates in 13 states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Illinois, Missouri, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Arizona, and Idaho. This list, however, does not include major red states such as Texas and Florida. Roth explained that many of these states lack a sufficient number of conservative legislators to participate in the network. For instance, he mentioned that in Texas, there may be only one or two House members who align with conservative values, and in Florida, the number is even lower.
Roth emphasized that the organization’s mission is to not only expose liberal influence in state legislatures but also to elect conservative candidates who will reduce government spending and lower taxes. To achieve this, the State Freedom Caucus provides state directors who work with local caucuses to offer guidance on legislation, vote recommendations, and support for organizing efforts.
The group has also become a platform for internal Republican dissent, with members like Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez challenging existing GOP leaders. In a recent development, Miguez is running for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy, suggesting that conservative tensions within the Republican Party are growing.
Roth has noted that the issue of ‘liberal Republicans’ in state legislatures is one of the largest problems facing the Republican Party. He claims that while he understands the complexities of governing, the presence of these ‘liberal Republicans’ in legislative processes has created a significant challenge for the party’s traditional conservative base.
