Former Defense Official Faces Abuse of Power Charges for Self-Boosting Bonuses

The Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv has announced charges against a former acting director general of a state-owned defense enterprise over allegations of abuse of power. The official is accused of misusing his position to award himself 700,000 UAH ($17,000) in bonuses and additional payments during his service. The charges come as part of ongoing investigations into corruption within public sector entities in Ukraine.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office statement, the investigation revealed that the official had used his authority to allocate funds that were intended for other projects and personnel. The total amount in question is approximately $17,000, which is a significant sum for a public official and highlights concerns over financial mismanagement in state-owned enterprises.

The case has sparked discussions about the need for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, particularly within the defense sector. Ukrainian officials have emphasized that this case underscores the importance of strengthening oversight mechanisms to prevent abuse of power and ensure fair distribution of public funds.
