Serhiy Babak Reports 83% of Donetsk’s Educational Institutions Damaged

During the full-scale invasion in the Donetsk region, 904 educational institutions were damaged to varying degrees, said Serhiy Babak, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovations. The report comes amid growing concerns over the humanitarian and socioeconomic impacts of the ongoing conflict. Babak’s statement emphasizes the critical need for international support to rebuild and restore educational infrastructure in the region.

Babak noted that the damage includes not only physical destruction but also the disruption of academic programs and the displacement of students and faculty. The committee is currently working on an assessment to prioritize the rebuilding of essential facilities and to secure funding for reconstruction efforts. Educational leaders are calling for immediate intervention to mitigate the long-term effects on the younger generation.

The situation in Donetsk has drawn significant attention from both domestic and international stakeholders. While the conflict continues to strain resources and infrastructure, the focus on education underscores the broader implications of the war on civilian populations. International organizations and governments are being urged to contribute to relief efforts and ensure that the educational system can be restored to its former capacity.
