Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers called for tighter gun control measures following a mass shooting at a Catholic church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The incident on Wednesday left two dead and several injured, with authorities identifying the suspect as Robert or Robin Westman, who was found to be in possession of three firearms during the attack at Annunciation Church.
Bueckers, who attended Hopkins High School in Minnesota and later committed to UConn for college basketball, spoke out on the tragedy before her team’s game against the Connecticut Sun. She expressed her condolences and stressed the urgent need for stricter gun laws to ensure the safety of children and families, stating, “It’s just really unfortunate that gun violence continues to be an issue and there’s really nothing being done about it.”
Preliminary reports indicate that 17 individuals were injured, with two of them in critical condition. Among the wounded were 14 children. The victims included two young children, aged 8 and 10, who tragically lost their lives. Police have not yet released further details about the suspect’s background or motive, emphasizing the ongoing investigation.
The shooting comes amid nationwide discussions about gun control, with Bueckers’ comments adding to the growing voices in sports and public life advocating for stricter firearm regulations. Her remarks reflect a broader concern about the safety of public spaces and the need for legislative action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
