Dr. Oz Advocates Medicaid Overhaul with Work Requirements and Fraud Crackdowns
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the newly appointed administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), has outlined his vision for reforming Medicaid, emphasizing work requirements and anti-fraud measures to empower Americans.
During an appearance on ‘My View with Lara Trump,’ Oz highlighted his longstanding commitment to ‘change,’ stating that his new role in Washington, D.C., is the culmination of his mission to enact meaningful reforms. He argued that Medicaid should not entrap individuals in dependency but instead equip them to take control of their futures through employment and stronger accountability.
Oz described the program as a ‘beautiful’ initiative that has strayed from its original mission during the pandemic, allowing for abuse due to excessive state payments. He likened the situation to ‘legalized money laundering,’ noting that these mechanisms removed responsibility from the states by financing the program without oversight. His proposals aim to rectify this by incentivizing individuals to move beyond dependency and into self-sufficiency.
Since taking office in April 2025, Oz has prioritized modernizing Medicaid and cutting fraud, waste, and abuse. He argued that the pandemic disrupted the program’s core purpose, necessitating reforms that encourage personal responsibility and economic advancement.
