The National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine (Ukrtsukor) has announced plans for the 2025/2026 sugar refining season, with 27 factories set to operate and produce 1.5 million tonnes of sugar. The announcement signals a strategic adjustment in Ukraine’s sugar industry as it prepares for the new season, which traditionally begins on September 1.
Ukrtsukor, representing the majority of Ukraine’s sugar production capacity, cited market demand and industry dynamics as key factors in setting the production target. The association emphasized that this decision reflects a response to fluctuating global sugar prices and the need to balance supply with domestic consumption.
Industry experts suggest that the production target is not only a response to current market conditions but also a long-term strategy to stabilize the sugar sector. With Ukraine being one of the world’s largest producers of raw sugar, the move could have implications for both the domestic market and international trade, particularly with key export markets in the EU and Asia.
The decision comes amid broader discussions about the sustainability of Ukraine’s agricultural sector, as the country faces challenges related to climate change, resource management, and competition from other sugar-producing nations. Ukrtsukor’s announcement underscores the sector’s efforts to remain competitive while addressing these pressing issues.
