The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced new policies allowing Ukrainian nationals who completed secondary education in Poland and obtained matura exam results to gain priority admission to Ukrainian higher education institutions. This initiative is part of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to support its diaspora and ensure that Ukrainian students who have been forced to flee their homeland have access to educational opportunities.
The matura exam, a standardized test required for graduation from secondary school in Poland, will now be recognized by Ukrainian universities as equivalent to the Ukrainian final exams. Students who have taken the matura will be eligible for admission to Ukrainian universities, provided they also meet other admission criteria such as language proficiency and academic performance.
This policy is expected to benefit thousands of Ukrainian students who have completed their education in Poland, many of whom are refugees or internally displaced persons. The Ukrainian government has pledged to provide additional support to these students, including financial assistance and access to scholarships.
Education Minister Vladimir Ogarkov stated that the new policy is a crucial step in ensuring that Ukrainian students have access to quality education, regardless of where they completed their secondary education. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Ukraine’s educational standards while welcoming students from Poland into the Ukrainian higher education system.
