Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler is facing a lawsuit in Tennessee following a DUI crash in October that resulted in his arrest and a four-day jail sentence. The incident occurred when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle, and he was cited for driving under the influence. His legal troubles continue as the man he struck has filed a lawsuit seeking damages over $25,000.
Cutler pleaded guilty to the DUI charge and will serve four days in Williamson County Jail, starting Sept. 29, along with a $350 fine. Once released, he will be on unsupervised probation for one year and required to attend a DUI safety class. The lawsuit filed by Perry Lee, whose car was struck, seeks damages in excess of $25,000. Lee’s attorneys stated the injuries caused by the crash have significantly impacted his quality of life, and they are seeking justice to provide him with necessary care. Cutler has not responded to the lawsuit.
The ex-quarterback, who was the 11th overall pick by the Broncos in 2006, played for the Bears for most of his 12-year NFL career, where he led the team to the playoffs only once in 2010. Cutler finished his NFL career with 35,133 passing yards and 160 touchdowns over 153 games, including his final season with the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
