Ukraine and Taiwan Forge Partnership to Develop Combat Drones
Ukraine and Taiwan have announced a collaboration to develop military UAVs through a partnership that includes Ukrainian and Polish tech experts and Taiwan’s Thunder Tiger company. The agreement was signed during the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce, Poland, amid heightened US-China tensions in the South China Sea, which has prompted increased attention on regional security dynamics. According to Focus Taiwan, Ukraine will provide research and development, Poland will offer expertise, and Thunder Tiger will supply technology and components. This partnership aims to strengthen technological exchange, industrial potential, and security through shared democratic values.
Beijing has consistently opposed any military support for Taiwan, considering all diplomatic ties with the island as a violation of its sovereignty. While China has avoided criticizing Russia over the war in Ukraine, Taiwan has expressed strong support for Kiev, with recent interactions such as the visit of a group of Ukrainian legislators to the island and meetings with President Lai Ching-te highlighting the growing alignment between the two entities. The agreement reflects a strategic response to geopolitical pressures, with the collaboration emphasizing the mutual interest in enhancing collective security and technological innovation.
