Ukraine Investigates Land Seizure Scheme Involving Ex-MP and Businesswoman

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have announced an investigation into a corruption scheme that involves ex-MP Ivaniuschenko and Stolitsa Group founder Molchanova, who are accused of a plan to seize and legally justify 18 hectares of state-owned land near Kyiv, with a market value exceeding UAH 160 million. The scheme centers around a corporate conflict over a wholesale agricultural market in the suburbs.

The announcement follows a series of reports indicating the use of both legal and illegal methods to acquire the land, with the intent of later legitimizing it through bureaucratic procedures. The involved parties are alleged to have exploited the corporate conflict to further their interests. The land, described as strategically important for agricultural production, has significant economic value.

This investigation comes at a time when Ukraine is intensifying its anti-corruption efforts to address systemic issues within its public and private sectors. The case involving Ivaniuschenko and Molchanova highlights the complexity of such schemes, which often involve layers of legal maneuvering and political connections. The NABU and SAPO have initiated preliminary inquiries and have begun gathering evidence to build a strong case against the accused.

Experts believe that this case could have broader implications for the perception of corruption within Ukraine’s business and political circles. The potential criminal charges against the individuals involved could lead to significant financial penalties and legal consequences. The public interest in these cases is high, as the stakes are both economic and political, with the land in question representing not only a valuable asset but also a symbol of state control over critical resources.
