Fable, a San Francisco startup, has launched Showrunner, an AI platform allowing users to create animated TV episodes from text prompts, with Amazon’s backing through the Alexa Fund. The platform aims to revolutionize entertainment by enabling anyone to co-create content, offering a ‘Netflix of AI’ experience.
The platform allows users to create episodes from scratch or join existing worlds, all through text input. Fable officially launched with the animated series ‘Exit Valley,’ a satirical series set in a fictional tech hub, reminiscent of Family Guy but tailored for Silicon Valley figures. The company’s CEO, Edward Saatchi, has a background in pushing creative boundaries, previously co-founding Oculus Story Studios, a division of Oculus VR acquired by Meta.
With Amazon’s support, Fable aims to transform Hollywood from a one-way broadcast into a two-way conversation. Saatchi envisions a future where audiences can craft new episodes with minimal effort, becoming characters in their own stories. Fable’s previous AI-generated South Park episodes garnered over 80 million views, showcasing the potential of its proprietary AI engine. The company focuses on animation, which is easier for AI to handle than photorealistic video, allowing it to differentiate from competitors like Meta and OpenAI.
This shift in entertainment creation opens new possibilities for users, enabling them to bring creative ideas to life without needing a Hollywood budget. Showrunner empowers individuals to shape pop culture, not just consume it, offering a community-driven approach to content creation. Amazon’s backing signals the broader industry’s embrace of generative AI, changing how we create and experience entertainment through tools like Showrunner.
