According to a USDA press release, Carson will serve as the Department’s chief voice on these matters and will partner closely with leadership in USDA’s Rural Development Mission Area.
Carson, who has previously held high-profile roles in the Trump administration, including vice chair of the Religious Liberty Commission, was tapped by Trump to work on initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of American families. He emphasized the importance of addressing poor nutrition and supporting vulnerable families through common-sense policymaking. ‘Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition,’ Carson noted, stating that he is honored to work with Secretary Perdue on these important initiatives to help fulfill President Trump’s vision for a healthier, stronger America.
Earlier this year, Trump signed an executive order to create the Religious Liberty Commission, and Carson was appointed as vice chair of this new entity. At the American Cornerstone Institute’s Founders’ Dinner on Saturday, Trump announced that Carson will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, with a ceremony planned at the White House. This marks a significant honor for Carson, as he was previously awarded the same medal by President George W. Bush in 2008. The American Cornerstone Institute, which Carson founded, is dedicated to promoting principles such as Faith, Liberty, Community, and Life, which are central to his personal and political philosophy.
