Ubuntu 25.10 ‘Questing Quokka’ Release Focuses on Enhanced Performance and Security
The latest release of Ubuntu, version 25.10 ‘Questing Quokka,’ has been officially launched, bringing significant updates tailored for enhanced system performance and user experience. Powered by the Linux 6.17 kernel, this version ensures robust support for modern hardware, making it suitable for both personal and enterprise environments.
The GNOME 49 desktop environment forms the basis of the Ubuntu Desktop flavor, which now defaults to a Wayland-only session, offering improved graphics and performance over traditional X11 sessions. New applications have been integrated into the release, including GNOME’s Loupe as the default image viewer and Ptyxis as the new terminal emulator, replacing older counterparts.
Additionally, key components have been updated, such as sudo-rs as the new sudo implementation, Dracut, Chrony for time synchronization, and Rust Coreutils for system utilities. Security features have also been bolstered, with TPM-backed FDE recovery key management providing enhanced data protection.
The release also introduces support for NVIDIA Dynamic Boost, which optimizes GPU performance, and suspend-resume functionality for NVIDIA drivers to prevent system freezes. Intel users benefit from support for new integrated and discrete GPUs, ensuring a broader range of hardware compatibility.
Ubuntu 25.10 is now available for download, offering users the latest in open-source software innovation and performance enhancements.
