Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Signs Law to Enhance School Security

On October 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed law No. 11543 on strengthening security measures in secondary education institutions. This legislation, which was first introduced in the parliament’s website, outlines comprehensive guidelines for improving the safety of students and staff in schools across Ukraine.

The new law mandates the implementation of enhanced security protocols, including the installation of surveillance systems, the hiring of additional security personnel, and the development of emergency response plans. These measures are intended to create a safer learning environment, particularly in the wake of recent incidents that have highlighted vulnerabilities in school safety.

Zelenskyy’s administration has emphasized that the law is part of a broader strategy to address security concerns in educational institutions. The legislation also includes provisions for regular inspections and mandatory training for school staff on security procedures. With the increasing frequency of security threats in the region, this law is seen as a critical step in safeguarding the future of Ukrainian students.
