Ukrainian Minister for Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova has stated that she expects the Verkhovna Rada to adopt the Code of Laws on the Defenders of Ukraine by late spring or early summer 2026. This legislation is intended to provide comprehensive support for veterans and their families, addressing various aspects such as healthcare, pensions, and social benefits.
The proposed law would also include provisions for the recognition of service and sacrifices made by Ukrainian defenders during the ongoing conflict. It aims to ensure that veterans receive proper compensation and benefits for their service, as well as support for their families in terms of education, employment, and housing.
Kalmykova emphasized the importance of enacting this legislation to honor the contributions of Ukrainian defenders and to ensure their long-term welfare. She highlighted that the legislation would be a significant step in recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans and providing them with the necessary support to rebuild their lives after service.
