Halo: Campaign Evolved to Launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026
Halo Studios, formerly known as 343 Industries, has announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. This major project, set for a 2026 release, will be available on Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5, marking a significant shift in the franchise’s platform strategy. Community director Brian Jarrard highlighted this as a new era for Halo, stating, “It’s really a new era — Halo is on PlayStation going forward.”
The decision to bring Halo to PlayStation 5 is particularly notable given the franchise’s historical association with Xbox. This move not only diversifies the platform ecosystem but also reflects the growing importance of cross-platform gaming in the industry. The remake is being developed from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, a stark contrast to earlier Halo titles that relied on proprietary software. This shift is expected to offer a more polished and immersive experience while maintaining the core essence of the original game.
While Campaign Evolved is primarily focused on the campaign, it will not feature the competitive multiplayer modes present in the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Instead, it will support splitscreen two-player local co-op and four-player online play. Additionally, it will introduce crossplay and cross-progression features, allowing players to seamlessly transition between platforms. The game will also include new mechanics, such as the ability for Master Chief to pick up and use enemy weapons, pilot the Covenant Wraith tank, and hijack or be hijacked by vehicles. A sprint button will also be introduced, altering the way players move across the battlefield.
The announcement was made during a livestream by Halo Studios, which emphasized the game’s commitment to modernizing the experience without deviating from the original vision. A reveal video for Halo: Campaign Evolved will be released on YouTube, offering fans a glimpse into the game’s new gameplay features. The release date of 2026 underscores the extensive development cycle required to deliver such a high-quality remake, highlighting the franchise’s dedication to innovation and player satisfaction.
