Former White House Drug Official Warns of Cartel Threats to Americans in Mexico

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, former federal mafia prosecutor and senior White House drug-policy official Joe Peters discussed the growing threat of narco-terrorism by Mexican cartels. Peters, who served during the Obama administration, outlined how drug cartels have evolved from mere drug trafficking organizations into sophisticated entities capable of orchestrating acts of terror against civilians.

Peters explained that these cartels now employ tactics previously associated with state-sponsored terrorism, including targeted assassinations, bombings, and绑架 (abductions) of civilians to intimidate government officials and enforce their will. He warned that Americans living in Mexico, particularly in border regions, are increasingly at risk of becoming collateral damage in the cartels’ escalating conflict with Mexican authorities.

“The situation has reached a critical point,” Peters stated. “These groups are no longer just smuggling drugs; they’re engaging in acts of terror that threaten the safety of all citizens, including Americans. We need to treat this as a national security issue, not just a law enforcement problem.”

Peters called for increased cooperation between the U.S. and Mexican governments to dismantle these organizations and protect vulnerable communities. He also urged travelers and residents to take necessary precautions and stay informed about local security conditions. “It’s not just about stopping drug trafficking anymore; it’s about safeguarding our citizens from the very real threat of narco-terrorism,” he concluded.
