Three suspects disguised as construction workers executed a daylight robbery at a Queens home in New York City, reportedly stealing a safe and jewelry valued at $3.2 million. The suspects were seen on camera fleeing the scene in a blue Hyundai Elantra shortly after the crime, with police attributing the burglary to three men. Details about the suspects indicated that two of them were dressed in construction gear, including black sweatshirts, black pants, and black backpacks, while the third, identified as a getaway driver, wore a white hoodie and black gloves.
Copies of the crime scene footage revealed the suspects’ movements, and the police department confirmed that no one was present in the home during the burglary. Furthermore, no injuries were reported during the incident, which occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information about the suspects to contact NYPD’s Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. Tips can also be submitted online and via @NYPDTips on X.
The robbery took place in the context of broader criminal activity in the New York area. Recently, law enforcement reported that masked looters were caught on camera trashing a Florida store and stealing clothes. Additionally, reports highlighted a $2 million jewelry store robbery that reportedly occurred just yards away from the Queens incident, as Seattle police chief was allegedly having lunch during the event. These incidents have drawn attention to ongoing crime threats in several regions of the United States.
The borough was also in the spotlight as Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani held a rally alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders at Forest Hills Stadium. The self-described democratic socialist is currently leading in the polls for the upcoming New York City mayoral elections. However, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an Independent, has been closing the gap in recent days, while Republican Curtis Sliwa continues to trail both of them by a significant margin. This political event was juxtaposed with the recent crime report, underscoring the complexity of urban security and political dynamics in the region.
