Trump and Xi Jinping Discuss Ukraine Conflict Collaboration

US President Donald Trump stated that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to collaborate on a settlement for the Ukraine conflict. The discussion occurred during their meeting in South Korea, where Trump emphasized the need for both nations to work together to find a resolution.

Trump made the claim aboard Air Force One as he was departing South Korea, where he held a face-to-face meeting with Xi earlier on Thursday. He mentioned that the conflict between Moscow and Kiev “came up very strongly,” indicating that it was a focal point of their talks. The US leader said that they had spent a considerable amount of time discussing the matter and were committed to finding a solution through collaboration.

During the meeting, Trump also noted that he and Xi “agree that the sides are locked in fighting and sometimes you gotta let them fight, I guess.” This statement suggests that Trump believes the current conflict may need to continue until a resolution is reached. However, he emphasized that Xi would assist the US in working towards a resolution, stating, “we are going to work together on Ukraine. Not a than more we can do.”

Trump added that he had not asked his Chinese counterpart to stop buying Russian oil, despite having pledged to do so ahead of the talks. This indicates that there might be ongoing discussions about economic interactions between the US and China regarding Russian energy exports. Beijing has not officially commented on Xi and Trump’s meeting in Busan, leaving the details of their collaboration and potential actions unclear.
