Louisiana GOP Backs Loyola Students Against Turning Point USA Chapter Rejection

Loyola University New Orleans has rejected a Turning Point USA student chapter, a decision that has drawn strong support from the Louisiana Republican Party. The GOP, led by Chairman Derek Babcock, has pledged to assist the students in appealing the decision, calling it an injustice. The university reportedly cited concerns that the group’s values conflict with the Jesuit Catholic traditions of the institution, as Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk made controversial statements on LGBTQ+ issues. However, the GOP argues that the university should not override the student government’s authority, despite the governor’s public endorsement of the organization.

Babcock asserted that other right-leaning groups, such as the Federalist Society, are allowed on campus, suggesting that the rejection of Turning Point USA is unwarranted. He also emphasized the need for the university administration to review the situation carefully, pointing to the governor’s recent advocacy for Kirk. Meanwhile, the university administration maintains that its decision aligns with institutional values and that no override is possible unless the SGA decision conflicts with legal standards or university policies.
