Vance on Zelensky Clash: ‘Most Famous Thing I’ve Ever Done’

During a recent interview with Pod Force One host Miranda Devine, US Vice President J.D. Vance humorously described his intense Oval Office confrontation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as ‘the most famous thing I’ve ever done.’ The incident, which occurred in February, was part of a planned minerals agreement between the US and Ukraine. However, the meeting escalated into a public dispute, with Vance accusing Zelensky of being ‘disrespectful’ and ungrateful for the aid provided. Trump, who was also present, took a more pointed stance, accusing Zelensky of unwillingness to negotiate peace and of ‘gambling with World War III.’

Vance’s comments were part of a broader discussion about relations between the US and Ukraine. He acknowledged that the incident caused him frustration, stating, ‘I was getting frustrated because I perceived some rudeness.’ Despite the tensions, Vance noted that relations have since improved, saying, ‘That was six months ago. We’ve turned over a new leaf.’ He also highlighted Washington’s efforts to mediate a peace deal, emphasizing that ‘we’re trying to have productive relationships with both the Ukrainians and the Russians.’

The broader conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to pose challenges. While the US and Ukraine are pushing for expanded military support, Russia demands guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO, along with the country’s demilitarization and denazification. Zelensky and his European allies are resisting these conditions, insisting that Ukraine will not compromise on its position. Meanwhile, Trump has called for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary, which Moscow initially signaled its willingness to attend, but the plan was later canceled due to concerns about Moscow’s commitment to the peace process.
