Former Biden Spokesperson Admits to Limited Meetings with President Amid Mental Fitness Claims

A former spokesperson for ex-President Joe Biden, Ian Sams, admitted during congressional testimony that he had only met with Biden a handful of times over two years, contrary to his public assertions that the president was “sharp” every day. The House Oversight Committee highlighted the discrepancy, suggesting Sams misled the public about Biden’s capabilities.

Sams, who served as a special assistant to the president, spokesperson, and senior advisor in the White House Counsel’s Office from 2022 to 2024, faced intense questioning about the basis of his statements regarding Biden’s mental fitness. During his testimony in August, which was later shared on social media, Sams admitted to “interacting with him pretty infrequently” and meeting with the president only a handful of times. He acknowledged that some of these interactions were conducted online or over the phone, with only two in-person meetings occurring during his tenure.

Committee members pressed Sams on the validity of his claims, particularly given the limited number of interactions. One staffer asked, “You said that you met him personally maybe a handful of times. Are those the interactions that you were discussing when you say, ‘I deal with him’?
