NFL Suspends Commanders’ Frankie Luvu for Hip-Drop Tackle Violations

The National Football League has suspended Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu for one game following his repeated use of hip-drop tackles, which the league deems a violation of player safety rules. Luvu, who is in his second season with the Commanders, made his third such tackle of the year on Sunday during his team’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The suspension is under Rule 12, Section 2, Article 18, which outlaws using a technique that involves swiveling and dropping the hips to trap a player’s leg below the knee. Luvu is permitted to appeal the decision, and he will miss the Week 10 game against the Detroit Lions. The Commanders, who have seen several injuries this season, including a significant arm injury to quarterback Jayden Daniels, are currently 3-6 in 2024.
