A former Justice Department employee, Sean Dunn, is facing a federal trial for allegedly hurling a sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent in Washington, D.C.
Dunn, who was employed as an international affairs specialist in the Justice Department’s criminal division, is now accused of assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, and interfering with a federal officer. The charges stem from an incident on August 10, where he is alleged to have thrown a sandwich at a CBP agent as a protest against President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
Despite the accusation, Dunn’s legal team is asserting that the act was not a violent attack but an exclamation point expressing his frustration with the deployment of federal agents in the nation’s capital.
