Tragic Bar Crash in Tampa Kills 4, Injures 13 After High-Speed Police Chase

A 22-year-old driver, Silas Kenneth Sampson, was arrested in connection with a fatal car crash in Tampa, Florida, where he allegedly plowed into a crowded bar patio, killing four people and injuring 13. The incident happened during a high-speed police chase that ended at Bradley’s On 7th, a popular bar in Ybor City. Police reported that Sampson was fleeing officers after being caught speeding and driving recklessly on Interstate 275. The Florida Highway Patrol initiated a pursuit, but Sampson evaded them and crashed into the bar, causing the tragedy.

According to authorities, Sampson was initially monitoring for street racing and reckless driving on Interstate 275. When he continued to drive at high speeds, police initiated a chase, but the driver, later identified as Sampson, managed to exit the interstate and head into downtown Ybor City. Despite attempts to stop him, including an unsuccessful PIT maneuver, Sampson continued to speed toward 7th Avenue and lost control, crashing into the local gay bar, Bradley’s On 7th. The collision caused multiple casualties, with three victims at the scene and a fourth dying later in the hospital.

The bar owner, Bradley Nelson, expressed his shock and devastation, stating that the event was ‘horrific’ and that it has been traumatic for the staff and customers. He also thanked the first responders for their prompt response and the efforts to manage the situation. Bradley’s on 7th will remain closed until Monday out of respect for the victims and the trauma experienced by the staff.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor also shared her thoughts on social media, acknowledging the city’s shock and grief following the incident. She reiterated the city’s commitment to community safety and the ongoing investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the incident, which has sparked widespread concern about the safety of public spaces and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
