Kamala Harris Alleges Democratic Party Overlooked Black Women’s Issues in 2024 Election

Kamala Harris, who served as the 49th Vice President of the United States, has criticized the Democratic Party for its neglect of Black women’s issues during the 2024 election. In a recent appearance on the ‘Storehouse & Friends’ podcast, she expressed her disappointment, stating that the party did not fully address the specific needs of Black women in America. Harris argued that these needs, such as Black maternal mortality, should be among the highest priorities for the party. She emphasized that she made these issues a priority during her tenure as vice president, but claims that she was not given enough support from the Democratic Party.

During the podcast, Harris also highlighted concerns over the administration’s recent cuts to research funding for health issues that disproportionately affect Black women, such as fibroids. She argued that this shows a lack of commitment to addressing these challenges, which she believes are critical to the party’s success. In her book, ‘107 Days,’ released in late September, Harris recounts her presidential campaign up until her defeat by Donald Trump. She has since embarked on a national book tour to promote its release.

Harris has also accused major Democratic figures, including members of the Biden administration, of failing to support her during the campaign. She wrote that the Biden team’s thinking was zero-sum, and that they did not understand that her success would reflect positively on the president. Her comments have drawn criticism, with some, such as comedian Bill Maher, attacking her book as self-centered. The Democratic National Committee has not yet responded to Harris’ criticism, but her comments underscore the ongoing tensions within the party and the challenges facing its leadership.

As Harris continues to navigate her post-presidential role, her criticism of the Democratic Party highlights broader concerns about the party’s priorities and its ability to appeal to diverse voter bases. She remains an influential figure within the party, but her challenges during the 2024 election serve as a reminder of the complexities of political leadership and the importance of representation in Democratic policy-making.
