Progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Luxury Campaign Spending Draws Scrutiny
Federal Election Commission filings reveal that Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, spent nearly $75,000 on luxury hotels, transportation, and security for her campaign this year, sparking debates about the allocation of campaign funds and its implications for her political standing. The expenditures, which include stays at high-end establishments like the Ritz-Carlton and The Luxury Collection, as well as limousine services in major cities, have drawn attention to the contrast between her advocacy for defunding the police and her spending on security and travel. Crockett’s campaign also allocated nearly $50,000 on security expenses, despite her past statements supporting criminal justice reform and fiscal responsibility in policing. The financial disclosure highlights a significant portion of her campaign funds going to personal and campaign-related luxuries, leading to questions about the transparency of her spending and its potential impact on public perception.
Details from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show that Crockett’s campaign spent $25,748.87 since January on high-end hotels and limousine services. The hotel expenses include $4,175.01 at the Ritz-Carlton and $2,304.79 at The Luxury Collection. Other hotel expenses include $5,326.52 to the West Hollywood Edition in Los Angeles, $1,173.92 to the Times Square Edition in New York City, over $2,000 to the Cosmopolitan and Aria resort in Las Vegas, and $2,703.14 to the Edgartown Inn and $3,160.93 at The Coco, both in Martha’s Vineyard. In addition, Crockett’s campaign paid Chicago-based limousine service Transportation 4 U $2,728.00 for travel, as well as $2,310.30 to DCA Car LLC, a premium car and limousine service, and $1,254.00 to Bay Area Limousine.
The data on Transportation 4 U, which is described as providing ‘top-tier limousine experiences tailored to your needs,’ showcases a photo of Crockett with the caption: ‘We were honored to provide transportation services for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett during her visit to Chicago.’ Crockett is seen smiling and dressed casually in a red sweater. Meanwhile, the campaign’s security expenditures totaled nearly $50,000, despite her recent advocacy for defunding the police. In 2021, while she was serving in the Texas House of Representatives, she remarked, ‘The Defund movement seeks to actually bring about healing and finally invest in our communities to make them safer, addressing the root causes of crime and by allowing the professionals to do their respective jobs. Defund is about finally being smart on crime. Defund is about lightening the load for our offices of all things they didn’t sign up for. Defund is about finally being fiscally responsible when it comes to policing in this state.’
This situation has generated significant discussion surrounding the apparent conflict between Crockett’s calls for fiscal responsibility in policing and her own campaign spending habits. The expenditures have raised questions about whether such luxuries are a reasonable use of campaign funds or if they might be seen as indicative of her priorities. While the Federal Election Commission files have made these spending details public, Crockett has not yet responded to the scrutiny, as Fox News Digital reached out, but did not receive a comment by the time of publication.
Moreover, Crockett is contemplating a potential Senate bid, which could have significant political ramifications. She has stated that she is ‘seriously weighing’ a run for the U.S. Senate against Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and is considering what data would influence her decision. The political landscape in Texas is currently tense, with Cornyn engaging in a bitter primary battle against Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Houston-area Rep. Wesley Hunt. Her potential move into the Senate race could impact her current position in the House and shape her political future.
Crockett has faced criticism for several statements, including a recent remark where she referred to Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott as ‘Governor Hot Wheels,’ which was widely interpreted as mocking his paraplegic condition. She later clarified that her comments were not intended to be disrespectful, citing her focus on the actions of Abbott in relation to immigration and community tensions. This incident, in addition to other comments she has made, including calling for Elon Musk to be ‘taken down’ and Sen. Ted Cruz to be ‘knocked over the head, like hard,’ has further drawn attention to the potential consequences of her rhetoric.
In a notable development, Crockett also came to the defense of Jay Jones, the Democratic Virginia Attorney General-elect who sparked controversy with his private texts that included fantasies about murdering a Republican lawmaker. Crockett expressed support for Jones and emphasized the importance of focusing on broader political strategies, suggesting that the focus on Jones was a distraction from more pressing issues. Despite her extensive public engagements, the financial disclosures have not yet received a response from Crockett, and the impact of her spending habits on her political career remains to be seen.
