Arrest of Mexican National Suspected in 2020 Georgetown Murder

U.S. Marshals have arrested Hernan Perez Juarez, a Mexican national suspected in the 2020 murder of a woman in Georgetown, Texas. The 41-year-old suspect, also known as ‘Patricio Perez,’ was charged with murder in connection with the May 8, 2020, killing of a woman found dead in her bathtub with a deep cut in her lower abdomen.

Perez Juarez, who was deported in 2018 for immigration violations, allegedly reentered the U.S. illegally before the crime. Authorities later discovered his abandoned vehicle near the Mexican border in Laredo, and he was apprehended in Temple, Texas, after recent intelligence revealed his return. The case, which had stalled since March 2022 when the Georgetown Police Department obtained an arrest warrant, has now resumed with his capture.

ICE has filed an immigration detainer against Perez Juarez following the judicial process in Williamson County. The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to a request for comment on the matter. The arrest highlights the ongoing challenges of tracking individuals who cross the border illegally and commit crimes, particularly in areas with significant immigration activity.

His arrest has sparked discussions about the enforcement of immigration laws and the need for enhanced border security. While the case does not directly involve financial elements, it contributes to the broader debate on immigration policy and public safety. The arrest is a reminder of the long-term consequences of illegal border crossings and the risks associated with such actions.
