The case of Wellington Dickens, a North Carolina father charged with the murder of four of his children, has shocked local communities and raised questions about the circumstances of such violent crimes.
According to court records, 38-year-old Wellington Delano Dickens III, a resident of Zebulon, was charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly confessed to the killings of his children. The deaths were said to have occurred over several months, beginning in May and ending in September. The 911 call report provided critical details about Dickens’ actions and the state of his home during this period.
Law enforcement authorities responded to Dickens’ home on October 27, shortly after 10 p.m., after he called 911 to inform them of the deaths. During the call, Dickens provided his home’s address and disclosed the location of the remains, which were found in a car trunk inside his garage. Deputies also discovered an unharmed 3-year-old son, who was reported to be alive and safe at the time of discovery.
Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell emphasized the tragic and emotional impact of the case, noting that it has affected every first responder and investigator involved. Bizzell expressed his belief that no father should ever commit such an act against his children, highlighting the depth of the crime.
Investigations are ongoing, with the state medical examiner’s office still analyzing the remains to determine the actual causes of death. The family’s reclusive nature and the fact that they were homeschooled have left community members in disbelief, as the children were rarely seen outside the home.
Authorities are also searching for a fifth child, whose remains have not yet been found, and are expected to resume the search once conditions are favorable. The case continues to be a topic of conversation and concern within the community, with authorities working to gather more details and understanding the broader implications.
