Fox News Poll: Voters Discontent with Economy and Trump’s Policies
A new Fox News national survey reveals an alarming trend of voter discontent with the current economic situation and the Trump administration’s policies. According to the poll, 76% of voters have a negative view of the economy, a significant increase from 67% in July and 70% at the end of former President Biden’s term. The data highlights a growing sense of frustration among Americans, with rising costs for groceries, utilities, healthcare, and housing reported across the country.
The survey suggests that voters are increasingly critical of President Donald Trump’s economic policies, which they believe have led to deteriorating living conditions. Notably, two-thirds of voters blame Trump for the current economic climate, while only 32% attribute it to President Biden. Trump’s approval rating for handling the economy has reached an all-time low according to the poll, with 58% disapproving his overall performance. This represents a stark contrast to his earlier approvals, which peaked at 92% in March.
The poll also reveals broader dissatisfaction with both major political parties. Nearly 60% of voters say that the president and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle don’t care about people like them, indicating a growing erosion of trust in government. This discontent is particularly pronounced among non-college graduates, Hispanics, Blacks, and young voters, who report the highest levels of financial strain. The data underscores a deepening divide between the parties and a sense of political alienation among many citizens.
Among the key findings, the poll highlights significant differences in voters’ perceptions of the two major parties. While Republicans are seen as better equipped to handle border security, immigration, crime, and the federal budget deficit, Democrats are viewed as more effective in addressing affordability, wages, healthcare, and climate change. These partisan perceptions are further exacerbated by the recent government shutdown, which voters largely disapprove of, with 2 out of 3 respondents expressing dissatisfaction with how Trump, congressional Republicans, and Democrats handled the situation.
The poll also reveals a decline in public support for both parties. The Democratic Party is viewed favorably by 39% of voters, while the GOP is perceived favorably by 39%. These figures mark significant drops from their respective peaks in July, suggesting a broader political shift. The survey also notes a record low level of favorable views for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, with 22% of voters expressing support, and 54% expressing disapproval, resulting in a net rating of minus-32 points.
Despite the overall dissatisfaction, the survey also captures some positive indicators. Trump’s job performance receives his highest disapproval among men, White voters, and non-college degree holders. The data suggests that the administration’s policies have not resonated well with core Republican constituencies, particularly as Democrats are gaining political traction from the current economic climate. The findings underscore the complex and polarized nature of the current political landscape, with a growing sense of disillusionment among the electorate.
The survey further indicates that voters believe the different branches of government are failing to live up to their constitutional obligations. Two-thirds are concerned about Congress and the Supreme Court not doing the checks and balances that they should and are giving too much of their constitutional authority to the president. At the same time, about half are concerned the judicial branch is obstructing Trump’s constitutional authority to carry out his agenda.
