Gen Z Password Security Lags Behind Older Generations

A new analysis by NordPass has revealed that Generation Z is significantly less adept at creating secure passwords compared to older generations. The report, shared on Slashdot, highlights that simple passwords such as ‘12345’ and ‘123456’ remain the most commonly used among young users. Notably, ‘123456’ has held the top spot for seven consecutive years, showcasing a persistent issue in digital security behavior. The study also found that while the ‘skibidi’ password variant is more prevalent in this demographic than in previous generations, the overall trend of using easily guessable passwords continues across all age groups. Security experts caution that the widespread use of such passwords makes them highly vulnerable to cyberattacks, as attackers can exploit these common credentials with minimal effort. The findings serve as a reminder of the critical importance of password hygiene and the need for greater education on digital security practices to protect users from potential breaches.
