Moscow Humanities University Loses Accreditation

The Moscow Humanities University, founded in 1995 by British sociologist Theodore Shanin, has been stripped of its accreditation, marking a significant blow to one of Russia’s leading humanities institutions. The decision comes amid growing scrutiny of the university’s academic standards and compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Shanin, known for his work in Soviet and post-Soviet studies, established the institution with the goal of fostering critical thinking and interdisciplinary research. The loss of accreditation may lead to increased scrutiny of other academic institutions in Russia, particularly those with international affiliations.
