Texas-based startup Janta Power has raised $5.5 million in seed funding to push forward its breakthrough vertical solar towers, which generate 50% more energy than conventional flat-panel solar systems while requiring only one-third of the land. The investment comes from MaC Venture Capital and Collab Capital, signifying robust support for the emerging 3D solar technology. These towers utilize smart tracking software that dynamically adjusts to follow the sun’s movement from sunrise to sunset, enhancing light capture and energy production across the entire day. This innovation is expected to significantly reduce reliance on backup power sources and improve the reliability of renewable energy supplies.
The technology is already being tested at major international airports, including Munich International Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, as well as facilities managed by Aena, which oversees more than 70 airports worldwide. These pilot programs demonstrate the versatility of the system, especially in urban environments where conventional solar farms are not practical. Janta Power’s towers boast a capacity factor of around 32%, compared to approximately 22% for traditional flat panels. This improved efficiency brings the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) down to $0.05 per kilowatt-hour, a figure significantly lower than the global average of $0.15. Such affordability makes renewable energy more accessible to high-demand sectors such as data centers, universities, and telecommunications, which require consistent and reliable power sources.
Additionally, the compact design of the towers allows for installations in densely populated urban areas, industrial zones, and other previously unsuitable spaces for large solar farms.
