Patients Call for Trump to Enhance Healthcare Price Transparency

A nonprofit patients’ rights group is urging President Donald Trump to improve healthcare price transparency as the White House prepares a new healthcare proposal. The PatientsRightsAdvocate.org (PRA), a nonpartisan organization focused on enhancing systemwide healthcare price transparency, is calling on the Trump administration to take steps to ensure patients and employers have access to detailed cost information. This would empower individuals and employers to make informed decisions and reduce excessive fees. PRA founder Cynthia Fisher emphasized the need for greater control over healthcare dollars, arguing that this will restore fairness, choice, and accountability to a system that has long served corporate interests over the American public. Fisher also encouraged Trump to back the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act, a bipartisan measure that would require hospitals to provide actual prices for approximately 300 essential services and mandate detailed itemized bills for each service. The group’s efforts build on previous actions by the Trump administration, including an executive order signed in February that mandated transparency regulations to ensure hospitals and insurers share actual pricing information. However, the timing of the upcoming healthcare proposal remains uncertain, with reports suggesting it could be released as early as Monday, though no official timeline has been provided. This push for transparency comes as Republicans face challenges in extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, which are set to expire in 2025, adding to the complexity of the healthcare debate.
