The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has initiated deportation proceedings against Nina Jaaskelainen, a Finnish woman accused of assaulting a family in Florida by throwing coffee on a baby, mother, and their dog. According to DHS, the 51-year-old has been in the United States illegally for over 26 years since entering on a B2 visa that expired in July 1999. ICE placed a detainer on Jaaskelainen following her arrest in New Smyrna, with Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stating that the agency aims to ensure she can never victimize another American family. Jaask, who has pleaded not guilty in court, has faced charges of battery and domestic violence, with her alleged actions occurring during a confrontation over a leashed dog. While Jaaskelainen claims the coffee was thrown on the dog and not the mother and child, authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the incident, citing the potential harm to the infant.
