Students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have reported the discovery of violent imagery near their campus, featuring anti-ICE messages such as ‘the only good fascist is a dead fascist’ and graphic depictions. The university has condemned the violence, emphasizing its commitment to condemning all forms of violence and encouraging students to report any suspicious activity.
More violent imagery appeared near the University of Wisconsin-Madison late last week, mirroring similar imagery found on the public school’s campus over a span of weeks, according to two students at the school. One image, photographed by Aiden Wirth, a student and writer at The Madison Federalist, read, ‘The only good fascist is a dead fascist.’ Ben Rothove, the editor-in-chief of the paper, also captured some of the displays.
Other images included an image of a fist punching a bloodied pig on a bicycle road sign, another image depicting a fist holding a smoking pistol to the head of someone in a Ku Klux Klan hood as blood squirts out of the figure’s head, with the caption ‘Speak their language.’ A fourth image, which also featured a pig being punched in the face with blood coming from its nose and mouth, bore the same caption. Another image with the same message was accompanied by an image of a person wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood with blood pouring out of the head.
Previously, campus police confirmed investigations into imagery showing an ICE agent being shot in the head with the text, ‘The only good fascist is a dead fascist.’ Earlier, an image of an ICE agent being shot in the head said, ‘Speak their language,’ with the text below reading, ‘You can’t vote away fascism.’ Campus police also confirmed their investigation into that image.
University of Wisconsin-Madison spokesperson John Lucas stated that the university condemns all forms of violence and reiterated this stance after the initial incident. Lucas urged students to reach out to the Office of Student Assistance and Support if they needed help and to report any stickers or suspicious activity to UWPD for investigation and removal.
