USA Women’s Basketball Training Camp Roster Announced, Caitlin Clark’s Absence Sparks Debate

Team USA women’s basketball has revealed its training camp roster for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, set for December 12-14 in Durham, North Carolina. The list includes standout players such as Lauren Betts, Aliyah Boston, Cameron Brink, Paige Bueckers, Veronica Burton, Sonia Citron, Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Dearica Hamby, Kiki Iriafen, Rickea Jackson, Brionna Jones, Kelsey Plum, Angel Reese, JuJu Watkins and Jackie Young. Prominent players like Copper, Plum and Young are featured in the promotional graphic, which has sparked some debate among fans.

Caitlin Clark, however, was not included in the graphic despite being a key figure in women’s basketball. This omission has drawn attention from fans, with columnist Christine Brennan, who has written about Clark, raising questions about the decision. Fans are also frustrated that Clark did not play for the U.S. team during the Paris Olympics. Clark, who has a gold medal from junior competitions, was drafted by the Indiana Fever and has faced injury challenges in her WNBA career.

The final roster for the World Cup will be decided by USA women’s national team director Sue Bird, who will assess players before the event. Gray, Griner and Hamby were all on the U.S. Olympics team last year, while Jones has FIBA World Cup experience and Boston has represented the U.S. in previous junior and senior events. Betts, Brink, Bueckers, Burton, Citron, Iriafen, Jackson, Reese and Watkins are making their senior camp debuts.
