Vikings’ J.J. McCarthy Enters Concussion Protocol Following Third Straight Loss

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has entered concussion protocol following a difficult loss to the Green Bay Packers, marking his third consecutive game loss in a disappointing season for the team. The second-year player reported symptoms after the game and faces an uncertain status as he returns this week. If McCarthy is unable to play, rookie Max Brosmer, who had previously taken over when Carson Wentz suffered a season-ending injury, could step in as the starter.

The Vikings are currently 4-7 on the season after a rough start, which has been marred by McCarthy’s inconsistent performances. The 10th overall pick in the 31.52 NFL Draft 2024 has struggled when on the field, playing only six games this season after dealing with a high-ankle sprain in Week 2. McCarthy missed five straight games before returning under center.

McCarthy’s latest performance in the loss to the Packers saw him complete just 54.1% of his passes with 87 yards and two interceptions. He was also sacked five times and faced criticism after the game, where he told reporters, ‘I’ve got to be better,’ per the New York Post.

The Vikings’ current losing streak continues despite the team’s previous 14-3 record with Sam Darnold at the helm last season. With the team now facing a potential fourth consecutive loss, the future of the quarterback position remains uncertain, especially with Darnold set to face his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, in Week 13.
