Iran’s intelligence chief, Esmail Khatib, has accused the United States and Israel of plotting to assassinate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, asserting that these nations are working to destabilize Iran.
This accusation comes amid heightened tensions following the June 2024 conflict between Israel and Iran, during which Israeli strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities. Khatib warned that Israel is facing an ‘epidemic’ of espionage within its own institutions, citing the recent arrest of an Israeli Air Force officer accused of spying for Tehran.
The claims align with previous statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who suggested that assassinating Khamenei would end the conflict, although it was reportedly vetoed by former US President Donald Trump.
