On Monday, the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) formally announced the conclusion of its mission in the Gaza Strip after delivering over 187 million free meals to the Palestinian population. The operation, launched on May 26, aimed to address the severe humanitarian crisis while ensuring that aid was not looted by Hamas. GHF’s Executive Director, John Acree, stated that the model they developed, which included coordination with the IDF and a focus on accountability and security, proved more effective than the United Nations’ efforts, which have faced allegations of corruption and ties to Hamas. The foundation is now transitioning its operations to the newly formed Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) and international NGOs, which have expressed interest in adopting GHF’s model.
The GHF’s success has drawn significant attention, particularly from international humanitarian organizations, which have criticized the model for its potential weaponization of aid. The commissioner-general of UNRWA in July called for an end to GHF, stating that it
