Amazon Unveils Kiro, a New AI-Powered IDE for Spec-Driven Software Development

Amazon has launched Kiro, an AI-powered integrated development environment (IDE) designed to tackle the challenges of vibe coding by introducing a spec mode that transforms informal coding requests into formal specifications, design documents, and task lists. The tool aims to address the issue of unmaintainable code generated through informal AI coding approaches. Kiro has been in preview since July and has already attracted over 250,000 developers, with the company expanding its availability to more teams and companies.
