Ukraine has announced plans to significantly expand its demining capabilities by forming eight specialized battalions equipped with modern technology by the end of 2025. This initiative, reported by the Ministry of Defense’s press service, follows a meeting of the working group of the coalition of demining capabilities, which includes member states contributing to international demining efforts. The new battalions are expected to increase demining capacity to over 450 groups, enabling more efficient and safer operations in extremely difficult combat conditions.
The decision reflects Ukraine’s ongoing commitment to clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance, a critical task in areas affected by prolonged conflict. The expanded demining forces are seen as a vital component in restoring safe access to territories and facilitating humanitarian aid. With the support of international partners, Ukraine aims to enhance its capacity to respond to the growing threat posed by unexploded ordnance, which continues to endanger civilians and military personnel alike.
