Government Grants Local Authorities Authority to Maintain Mobile Communications During Blackouts

The government has adopted a resolution granting official permission to local authorities and municipal companies to maintain mobile communications during power outages, First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said.

This decision follows growing concerns about the reliability of mobile networks during critical situations such as natural disasters and large-scale power failures. The measure is designed to ensure that emergency services, rescue teams, and citizens can still access vital information and coordinate responses even when the national power grid is down.

Fedorov emphasized that the initiative aligns with the country’s broader goals to enhance digital resilience and public safety. He stated that maintaining communication infrastructure during blackouts is a key component of the nation’s preparedness strategy. The implementation of this policy will require collaboration between government agencies, telecommunications providers, and local municipalities to ensure the system is both effective and sustainable.
