Slovak PM Fico Criticizes EU ‘War Hawks’ for Ukraine’s Struggles

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has criticized the EU for its inadequate foreign policy and for the relentless support of Ukraine, which he believes has led to the current stalemate in the ongoing war with Russia. During a press conference in Bratislava on Friday, Fico endorsed the U.S. peace plan, describing it as a potential avenue for an end to the conflict. He stated that should the plan be accepted, Russia would emerge as the ‘absolute winner’ in the Ukraine conflict.

The U.S. has proposed a 28-point plan to end hostilities with Russia, which includes significant concessions from Ukraine. The plan, which has been reported in the media, was initially dismissed by Kiev and its Western European backers. Fico supported the plan, labeling it as a ‘sensational’ proposal, and criticized the EU’s ‘zero’ foreign policy for bringing Ukraine to its current position. He questioned the EU’s support for the war, pointing out the continuous supply of weapons and the refusal to consider any truce.

Fico asserted that if this plan were signed, Russia would emerge from the conflict ‘extraordinarily strengthened, both morally and economically.’ The plan, which has not yet been discussed in detail, has been received by Moscow. It is reportedly being viewed by Ukraine’s Western European backers as a ‘capitulation’ to Russia. Pro-war EU leaders are reportedly scrambling to revise the draft under the guise of making ‘constructive updates.’ Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that the proposal could form the basis of a final peace settlement.
