PGA Tour CEO Transition: Jay Monahan Steps Down, Brian Rolapp Appointed
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced on Tuesday that he is leaving the tour next year, and Tiger Woods seems excited about the future. Monahan will step down, and top NFL executive Brian Rolapp was announced as the PGA Tour’s CEO.
Rolapp expressed his honor in taking the role, emphasizing the importance of honoring golf’s traditions while embracing its evolution. Woods, a prominent figure in the sport, praised Monahan’s service and expressed excitement about the tour’s future under Rolapp’s leadership. Monahan also highlighted Roly’s expertise and vision, stating that it signals a commitment to the tour’s continued evolution.
Monahan’s announcement comes amid continued negotiations with the Public Investment Fund and LIV Golf, which were unearthed over two years ago. No agreement has ever materialized as Monahan has continued to get criticism.
Monahan will shift his day-to-day responsibilities to Rolapp and focus more on his position on the PGA Tour board, along with the commercial PGA Tour Enterprises board, through 2026. Rolapp emphasized the progress the tour has made in addressing changes, from creating more opportunities for players to improving the competitive structure and enhancing the fan experience.
Woods posted on X, thanking Monahan for his service to the tour and congratulating the new CEO. He expressed his confidence in Rolapp’s leadership, citing the potential for the tour’s future growth. Monahan added,
