Superman Director James Gunn Addresses Political Themes and Human Kindness in Upcoming Film

Director James Gunn has confirmed that the upcoming Superman film will explore political, moral, and immigration themes, positioning the character as an immigrant who represents the country and highlights human kindness. The film, set for release on July 11, will serve as a reboot of the 2013 film Man of Steel and feature David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Gunn emphasized that while the film tackles political issues, it also maintains a sense of fun and fantasy, including elements like a flying dog in a cape. Although the film’s political themes may resonate differently across the country, Gunn dismissed criticism, stating that ‘there will be jerks out there who are just not kind’ and ‘screw them.’ The film aims to explore the moral relationship between Superman and Lois Lane, questioning whether Superman’s belief in never killing is the right approach or if there should be some balance.

The character, first introduced in 1938, was born from the imagination of writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in Cleveland, Ohio. In the comics, Superman is the sole survivor of the planet Krypton, sent to Earth by his parents as their world faced destruction.

Gunn did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
